The possibilities of RETISSA

RETISSA is a product that utilizes retinal projection technology. We decided to apply this technology, which precisely controls laser light, to help people with low vision. This is because there are 250 million people in the world and 1.45 million people in Japan who have suffered from this challenging disability. We want to reduce the number of people living in a world with blurred or no vision as much as possible. So many people have helped with this project, such as ophthalmologists, orthoptists, opticians, schools for the blind, and many others who work with people with low vision. Our common wish is to “improve the quality of life (QoL) of people with low vision.”
Transforming hard-to-see to “visible.” That is the first possibility of RETISSA.

As people get old, they all experience difficulty seeing. This is because people’s life expectancy has come to exceed the life expectancy of their eyes due to the increase in longevity. In addition, it is not easy to regain vision that has been impaired due to eye diseases. We believe that retinal projection technology can be used for the early recognition of problems and the prevention of visual impairment through its application to ophthalmological examinations and medical checkups.
Extending the healthy lifespan of your “vision.” This is the second possibility of RETISSA.

Furthermore, augmented reality images that appear through retinal projection are nothing less than a combination of digital information and the real world. Smart glasses will surely be the next step after tapping on a keyboard while looking at a computer screen or swiping while looking at a smartphone screen. Smart glasses will not only provide labor support for professionals working in factories or infrastructure facilities, but we are convinced that they will also become devices used by general users.
The power of “vision” broadens your world. This is the third possibility of RETISSA.

QD Laser Inc., the developer of the RETISSA series, is a leading-edge semiconductor laser company that continues to grow based on the philosophy of “Illuminating Human Possibilities”. We will continue to develop new value by spreading the laser retinal projection technology.

How to See with Laser Retinal Projection

A low-power, full-color laser beam produced by red, blue, and green semiconductor laser passes through the center of the pupil and scans the retina at high speed, projecting a crystal-clear image. In other words, it is a laser projector that uses the retina as a screen.

Laser retinal projection technology is less affected by the condition of the front part of the eye, such as the lens, which is responsible for focusing. There is no need to use corrective glasses or contact lenses or to strain the eyes. You can always see a clear image whether you are looking at something close up or far away.

In addition, images projected to the peripheral area of the visual field are also in focus, as well as ones to the center. The periphery of the retina, which is not often used in normal viewing, can also be used to maximum advantage.
